Simone wins the TS 500 event

The TS Open Tour continued this weekend with the TS 500 events with success for St Andrews Fresher, Simone Jensen in the women’s singles.

The Tour starts with TS 300 events all around the country, with the winners qualifying for the TS 500 along with those straight through to that level.

The TS 500 tournament at University of St Andrews this weekend had 5 St Andrews players in the draw. Simone Jensen, Matilde Piras and Maria Montero took part in the women’s draw and the Men’s event had Sam Stead and Joe Kelly playing.

Joe & Maria had earned their places in the TS 500 by winning their respective TS 300 events 3 weeks before.

In the Men’s singles Joe & Sam lost out in round 1, whilst the women fared better by all reaching the semi finals.

In the semis, Simone and Matilde had straight sets wins over Katie McKay and Maria respectively. The final proved to be a close contest with Simone coming out on top in two tight sets, 7-6 6-4. Simone will now go through the the TS 1000 where she will join team mate Beth Laybourne in the draw.

The TS Open Tour is an event open to all players from 11 years old upwards and attracts hundreds of entries across the country.
