Men’s 1st finish strongly in League campaign

The Men’s 1st team made the trip to Glasgow today, knowing that a result could put them in a position for the Play-offs for Premier League next season.

Captain Sam Stead was joined by Finlay Brown, Joe Kelly & Gunnar Thorstenson for the last league match of the season against Glasgow 2nds. Sam played an in form Glasgow no 1 and went down in straight sets to give Glasgow an early lead. Joe levelled things up with a 6-3 6-2 victory before Gunnar put Saints ahead 2-1 winning 7-5 6-3. Finlay, at no 2 lost the 1st set but re-grouped to level at 1 set all before whitewashing his opponent 6-0  in the final set.

In the doubles, Joe & Gunnar raced to a 6-1 lead only to then lose the 2nd set 2-6. From 3-6 down in the champions tie-break they rattled off 7 point in a row to put the team 4-1 up. Sam & Finlay capped a great day by winning the no 1 doubles 6-4 6-3.

This win gives Saints 2nd place in Division 1 and should give the men a place in the play-offs in April / May.

Great finish to an excellent season.
